Library Tips #2: Get Help from a Librarian

L to R: Librarians Suyu Dong, Betsy Evans, April Aultman Becker and Lori Schreiber

If there’s one thing we want you to know, it’s that Team Library is always looking for ways to better help you with your information needs. Here are some ways to get help from the SRSU library:

  • Visit us in person! The Bryan Wildenthal Memorial Library is located on the SRSU-Alpine Campus, Building 2. Access parking via Entrance 3. See a campus map here.
  • Bookmark the Library’s homepage, http://library.sulross.edu.
    • You can also navigate to our page from http://sulross.edu by hovering over the Academics tab and finding us under Resources; or
    • By clicking Library in the navigation of any Blackboard course.
  • Add our phone numbers to your syllabi and create contacts in your phone for SRSU Librarians! Call us at (432) 837-8272 / Text us at (432) 296-4074
  • Use the Chat Service during open hours. Navigate to http://sulross.libanswers.com/, look for the “Chat with Us” button on the Library Guides, or click into Ask a Librarain on the side menu of this blog. The button looks like this:
    • We love the chat feature because it enables us to connect with distance education students, staff and faculty — and by distance we also mean the students, staff and faculty who don’t often leave the RAS.
    • Further, chats leave each participant with a full transcript, including links, of the conversation for easy reference.
  • Email all of the librarians at SRSULibrary@sulross.edu, or get to know us individually at the Information Desk:
    • April Aultman Becker is the Dean of Library and Research Technologies. She is also currently the best contact for library collection development;
    • Lori Schreiber is the Director of Technical Services, focusing on maintaining the behind-the-scenes collection tech-y things [“library jargon”] with her staff on the third floor;
    • Suyu Dong is the Systems and Discovery Services Librarian, primarily focusing on maintaining our databases and leading the Interlibrary Loan Department; and
    • Betsy Evans is the Education and Outreach Librarian, focusing on infusing information literacy concepts into student learning outcomes and turning students everyone into lifelong learners and library users.
    • (See our entire, if not always accurate, list of staff here.)
  • Embed a librarian into your Blackboard Course to lead discussion forums or be available for specific office hours. Contact Betsy Evans, betsy.evans@sulross.edu, or Sandy Bogus, sbogus@sulross.edu, to get started.

You can even get help via social media! Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for current updates on our resources and services.
