My experience as a first-generation college student provided me with the skills and knowledge of how to succeed in a university. In my new role as Associate Dean, my goal is to share those life lessons with our Sul Ross students so that they can make great strides in their educational careers and beyond. I am excited to take on this new role and share my passion for Sul Ross with incoming, current, and past students. My goal is to foster an environment where students grow as adults and thrive in college.
I plan to spearhead initiatives that allow our students to feel empowered and take ownership of the university so that they understand what it means to be a Lobo. Not only will we engage them as students but also we will cultivate them as leaders and change-agents for our state.
One of my first actions was to create a student life advisory council. This council includes students representing different aspects of our population (on-campus, off-campus, students as employees, undergrads, graduates, etc.). I believe that by listening to our students, we will empower them so that they engage in the campus experience and help us make Sul Ross greater than ever.
Every department that I oversee works toward student development and student experience so I am confident that together we can make progress and imbue the university with a new energy. I firmly believe that our job is to educate the whole person through mind, body, and spirit and now I am thrilled to have the opportunity to do just that! Our goals will always include opportunities to instill life-long memories of their time at Sul Ross so that they will always remember this university as a life-changer. I look forward to the upcoming year and I am eager to see what the future brings.
Go Lobos!
