Hollywood loves to adapt best selling books for the big screen and 2016 will be another great year for literary film buffs! A host of new movies will be released this year based on your favorite books. If you’re like most readers, you know the book is ALWAYS better than the movie, so you’ve got to read the book before the movie comes out. This is a great way to discover new books, or a good time to re-read the ones you love. The only downside to reading the book first, is that there is usually a very long wait before the movie comes out and the anticipation is hard to stand!

Here are four book-to-movie adaptations you can look forward to reading and watching on the big screen this year:

1) The Little Prince (Release date: March 18)

Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s classic is beautifully animated in this adaptation. The star-studded voice cast includes Rachel McAdams, Paul Rudd, and Marion Cotillard. The film was released in France in 2015, and will hit U. S. theaters on March 18. This is one of those books that you can re-read from childhood into your adult years and always find something new to relate to each time.  Find it in the Wildenthal library.

2. The Divergent Series: Allegiant (Release date: March 18)

The final movie of the Divergent Series comes out this year and stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James as Tris and Four. The film is based on the last book of the wildly popular trilogy by Veronica Roth of dystopian thrills. If you liked “The Hunger Games” or “The Maze Runner” give these a read and watch.  Find it in the Wildenthal library. 3. Alice Through the Looking Glass (Release date: May 27)

Johnny depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carte, and Mia Wasikowska are back in producer Tim Burton’s weird and wonderful adaptation of Carroll Lewis’ “Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There”. Find it in the Wildenthal library.

4. The Girl on the Train (Release Date: October 7)

Emily Blunt stars a Rachel, who is thrown into a chilling series of events after seeing something unsettling from the window of the train on the way to work. This psychological thriller is sure to make for an edge-of-your-seat movie experience. Find it in the Wildenthal library.
