Library Tips #8: Pushing to the Finish Line

Remember Spring Break? :* ( via SRSULibrary on Instagram

We got a whiteboard (on wheels!) a few months ago as part of an initiative to capture more data about how students experience the Library. Within weeks, an artist emerged and our own Kayla Waggoner began leaving us — faculty, staff and students — wonderful welcome messages.

But this past Monday, I was alarmed by the message. It read:

Four more weeks!

Just three if you don’t count finals!

Finish strong!

Yikes! Three more weeks until finals? Like me, you may want to take a deep breath.

In order to finish strong, as Kayla suggests, we’ve got to take some time to nurture ourselves in these stressful final weeks. This is a good time to take stock of our surroundings: What have we accomplished already this semester? For ourselves? Our classes? What do we have left to do?

There are simple things we can all do to stay happy, healthy and productive in the final push of the semester: Stay hydrated, eat wholesome foods, take walks. Maybe even try something like a ‘Shultz Hour’ as written about by op-ed columnist David Leonhardt in The New York Times* this week.

Be on the lookout for more virtual tips from the Library for chilling out and staying calm, cool and collected during these last few weeks.

For those in Alpine, please encourage your students to visit us during DeStress Fest. (And please make plans to visit for yourself!) From April 27 through May 3, we’ll have easy-going games, light crafts and brain food in the SRSU Library and some extra special guests — the kind with four legs —  outside the Library.

And of course, beginning on Dead Day, May 4, we’ll be open for extended hours. Extended hours mean extended opportunities for chatting with a librarian — whether you’re in the Library in Alpine or at a distance. (Note for RGC folks: SWTJC Libraries will hold their normal hours. Keep up to date with the goings-on of all SWTJC Libraries here.)
