Library Tips #6: The TexShare Card

One special perk of being a current SRSU student, faculty or staff member is the eligibility to apply for a TexShare Card. The TexShare Card entitles you to borrow books at any participating library throughout Texas. This means access to the most resources by the most people all across our state.

So, where do you sign up? SRSU faculty and staff, including RGC and other distance education faculty and staff should sign up using this online form. Pick the card up in Alpine or choose to have it mailed directly to you!

More about the TexShare Program at SRSU Library is available here.

Some TexShare Card talking points:

  • Cards for all students are valid for one semester at a time (because eligibility is dependent on enrollment). Faculty and staff cards, however, expire on August 31 of each year.
  • This program is made possible by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Read more about TexShare here.
  • A TexShare Card does not give you access to TexShare Databases — but — luckily for all of you current SRSU students, faculty and staff: You’ve already got access to TexShare Databases through us! As you scroll through Databases A-Z, you will see that TexShare Databases are emblazoned with the TexShare badge:
  • According to Danielle Cunniff Plumer, the Statewide Resource Sharing Coordinator for the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, the TexShare Card program resulted in over 20,000 cards issued and over 400,000 items circulated in FY 2016. Yee-haw!
