ARTIST Statement

I create science fiction based digital landscapes with narrative elements. Using a graphics tablet and digital software I paint everyday scenes, adding otherworldly elements; giant mysterious spacecraft floating in the distance, an unearthly green sky, mysterious portals leading to other worlds.

Each digital painting conveys moods such as uneasiness, wonder, majesty, or awe. Different color palettes like greys and muted earth tones illustrate uneasiness while brighter, saturated tones capture a child-like wonder.

The artists I admire are Simon Stalenhag, Jakub Rozalski, and Bryn Jones. Simon Stalenhag paints scenes set in Swedish landscapes and adds science-fiction elements such as spaceships, robots, and battle-scarred buildings. He pairs this with desaturated colors to give his work unsettling tones, effectively conveying an uneasy mood. Jakub Rozalski creates environments with emphasis on his mechanical and mythical characters with an art style reminiscent of classical painters such as Ivan Shishkin and Józef Brandt. Bryn Jones conveys loneliness and otherworldliness using elements such as fog and mysterious, silhouetted figures.  Using their artwork as inspiration I continue to attempt to capture different moods, create interesting worlds, and paint something unique.
