Homecoming at Sul Ross inspires the Lobo family to reflect on changes to our students, our faculty and staff, and our campus each year. Alumni and friends come back to campus to reconnect and reminisce about their days as college students. I love this time of year because we get to see the successes from our alumni who want to share more time at Sul Ross with their families and friends. It is always a pleasure to hear stories from alumni about the “good old days” like their toboggan races down the hill from Mountainside during snow days or their hikes up Hancock Hill to sign the desk. The university has certainly changed over the years as we added new buildings or improved campus facilities. And while those types of changes occur every year, I am reminded that we still hold true to our core values and traditions that make Sul Ross strong. We proudly display the Bar-SR-Bar as a lasting legacy of the history of our university and our tie to the region we serve. We never forget the many people who made an impact on this university and new students who will graduate and lead our state and nation. We always remember that our goal is to help people change their lives as it has been since we opened almost a century ago. Homecoming means different things to different people. For me, it means that we remain strong, proud, determined, and hopeful for a better future. Homecoming reminds me that WE ARE SUL ROSS!
I look forward to visiting with you this weekend. I hope that you will not let the weather deter you from coming out and celebrating with the Lobos at the many events on campus. Go Lobos!

If it wasn’t for SR I would not have become an Air Force and airline pilot. It’s a shame the AFROTC detachment no longer exists. On top of this I met my lovely wife of forty four years at Sully.
